Brief Introduction

This page will discuss Y-Axis Farming.

Goals

Discuss Y-Axis Farming as it pertains to Atlas City.
Determine the benefits of Y-Axis Farming over conventional farming methods.

Topic Discussion

Y-Axis Farming is the practice of growing plants within Agricultural Towers, or on the Y axis (the up and down axis)

The way housing (or living space) is to be structured in Atlas can be thought of as being similar to a condo. Basic needs are met at the living quarters area, but most of the benefits occur at the social interaction areas. Public gyms, theaters, game rooms, etc. will be available in several sectors to encourage community relations. The home will be mostly for private time, eating and sleeping. Most other activities will be in one of the many social areas and convention halls.

Travel within the city:

Depending on the size or scale of the city, the main or most common element of transportation of great distance could consist of a tram system. This tram system would quickly and efficiently move around on elevated track systems and grant easy access to every sector of the city to residents. Walkways will be effectively used throughout the city for walking, bicycles and electric carts. Electric carts may be used by those that have physical imparment, must travel a far di…

Internal protection will involve the use of individual ID cards (allowing different access then visitor passes) and security guards.

Residential buildings will not require ID cards to enter the buildings, but will have a specialized magnetic key code for each home. There will also be a key pad in case of emergencies or other circumstances, and doors will be outfitted with cameras to see who is at…

Protection of the city will come on two fronts; physical, and electronic.

Physical protection deals with the issues of outside influence and destruction, theft, and monitoring hotel guests/visitors. Fencing off the entire city is not something that we want to do. It is a waste of time, money and materials and will only be used if there are persistant problems. Security of this magnitude will be required to manage security cameras (likely to be set on center spire for 360 degree, uninterrupted v…

Internal: Postal services will be a mandatory part of Atlas as it is still a part of the American mailing system, and we have personal connections to the outside world. There will be large arrays of mailboxes dedicated to a sector, much like an apartment complex. This will minimize the time needed to drop off mail to the thousands of residents we will have. In Nevada, it is actually being mandated that older areas give up their personal mailboxes and reform to this type of mail service. It expon…

The will be well insulated and of open design to give added privacy, efficiency and more stress free.
Food Services Provided:

Food services will occur in several different ways. Food markets will be set up, likely in the center of town, to provide fresh food from vertical farms and agricultural districts. There may be smaller ones in several other locations for convenience and to lower the necessity to travel to get produce. From these markets, individuals can take any supplies they require to cook their own meals at home. They will also have their own gardens and aquaponic systems at home to p…

Water: Clean, reliable, and harmless to the environment, except for the ecosystems of the fish that this habitat disrupts. Clark County Nevada may be a desert on its surface, but in its ancient times, it was underwater, and much of that water still remains underground.
