hi my name is Chris Bate i live in south west Sydney (Australia)

What do you do and/or would like to do in Atlas City?

at the moment I spend my days looking for water leaks on the Sydney water mains which means lots and lots of walking if an atlas city were to materialise sometime in the future I would probably spend all my free time on electrical, agricultural and automation projects

What education do you have or would like to acquire?

high school, something to do with physics

Are you interested in living in Atlas City?
if i could convince my wife to come then yes

Do you have skills to help build Atlas City?
in my opinion yes

Have you decided what committee you would like to join?
committee ...... no

Have you studied Resource Based Economies or Venus Project, what are you thoughts or concerns?

I am aware of their basic functionality however I take issue with the speed at which movements such as the zeitgeist movement is currently taking I don't see them making much dust as they are apparently waiting for the collapse of the American economy... how are you going to build a RBE after the social collapse of an economy... almost nuts

How important do you think health and diet is in Atlas City?
probably THE most important

Are you motivated by money, or integrity, love, purpose and social contribution?

money - used to, up until a few years ago when I wanted to buy a house , I had the deposit had the house picked out $230,000 I went to the banks lending houses no a scrap of luck anywhere
I missed out on the house because i was short on the deposit by $1500, then the house prices started going up and up and up.....
a couple of weeks ago I found out the same house sold for $540,000 the repayments on that house would have been $330 per week well and truly affordable even back then, now I'm paying $400perweek for a crappy little rental and I get told how to live by my dyslexic paranoid and very particular landlord - so no not by money purpose yes social contribution yes , love yes , money no

Tell us anything else about yourself you would like?

i dont' believe in god... don't get me started there,
my hobbies consist of playing with servo and stepper motors, data loggers, building/designing various electronic circuits when i'm not doing that i'm usaully writing somthing in either vb6,picbasic ( oshon version) delphi or one of the many other languages (yes i'm a very boring person acording to some)
anyone can get a block of land grow food and survive and probably for the rest of their natural life , but to "live" is a whole different thing

Hi there Chris! Welcome to the Atlas City Project. I look forward to your contribution to what we are doing here. Although you live in another country there are many ways you can participate.

Help us to bring Atlas to life by amassing knowledge and ideas here on the website. We are using the wiki as a manual on how to build Atlas. Eventually it'll be filled with everything there is to know about Atlas and how to replicate it.

We are having a big meeting this January you can attend via web conference.

Glad to have you!

I think everyone is tired of the speed Zeitgeist is moving at. We get a lot of people looking in here from that aspect. Maybe when all movements have worked out their kinks we will be able to help each other out.

Glad to see your interest here and hope you can get the gist of what has been done so far and what is planned the next month or two. There's a lot to get through!

the problem with the Zeitgeist movement is that they are starting to resemble a church, all talk no actaul action , granted with these sorts of things you can't go too quickly or it'lll just fall over ,
the forums are really dominated by what i would term hypocrites, and will very readily shoot down any new idea without really reading a whole post and then completely miss conprehend the original idea completely, it's crazy,

personally i think if any of thses movements has any chance at all it's with small groups of people pooling resources between themselves. it's probably not the best part of the forum to start somthing like that up so i'll start a new thread on the correct part of the forum

Welcome.

I notice today on the Z forums yet another person interested in building things, and this time the person has land too!

Many of us here want to build things, I'm in the UK myself.

In SW Nevada! That's perfect for us! Nanos, do you think you can get him in contact with us? Either via the forums, the website contact, or my personal email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I don't have a login for them anymore, but this could move us in the right direction very fast.

If nothing else we could work together and maybe use the land to get some local awareness and start business proposals to help fund the city.

That is so perfect! It would be fantastic to get in touch with that guy. It would be a giant leap forward for Atlas.

I'm no longer a member on their forum, so its not so easy for me to contact him, perhaps someone else here who is still a member could send him a message ?

(One might want to do it quickly before he gets banned himself/and/or his messages deleted for being anti-Z..)

I suppose I'll sign up right now. If anyone else wants to as well feel free, strength in numbers.

EDIT: I'm not sure what's going on, but it won't let me register. When I register it goes to a login page, but I can't log in and it won't recognize my email addresses I used for the newly registered accounts. Not sure if there's a lag or I'm being blocked.

A few minutes ago, the machinist posted this:

I have looked into the atlas group, and I'm afraid the group itself doesn't have enough of what i am seeking, and their focus lies too heavily on the social engineering aspect of the VP, and not enough on the important technical aspects of such a society's infrastructure.
perhaps i should just go ahead and lay down a lengthy post explaining how i stand on the VP, ZM, RBO, and what i would like to do to attempt to kick start the whole system into play.
You see I have tried to cover as much of of the available information on the Venus project as i possibly can within the constraints of time that i have available (I live self sufficiently, and this time of lifestyle for a single individual is incredibly time intensive.) and though I will admit that i have probably missed some of the finer points i believe i have an acceptable understanding of the basic tenants that draw this group together but feel free to correct me as i try to concisely paraphrase.
all of us in the movement seem to understand that the capitol system that we are utilizing right now is a relic, born from fear and greed from a time when the human population was more sparse and dependent upon heavy manpower, clustered together out of necessity in order to defend from predators, attackers, and the elements. Given our technical achievements, these necessities have fallen by the wayside enabling us to free ourselves from unwanted toil and focus more energy on technological, medical, and social advancements. However, the pre-existing and vastly powerful entity of capitalism has become very good at survival, and will not voluntarily dissolve itself. We all feel that a new system needs to be put into place that uses our technology to automate the menial tasks of providing food, housing, transportation, and energy. and preferably one that is in tune with resource limitations and environmental impact.
This i feel is the seed concept that all other debate and theory inside the movement stems from, and i also feel that it has gotten weighed down by unnecessary complication. We do not need to work out the details on how a technologically advanced metropolis should govern itself. Given that at this time the cities we speak of are still a thing of fiction we have no precedent to work from, no detailed model to derive fact from, and the amount of energy spent could better be used educating ourselves in the technologies that will be required in order for this concept to flourish. Here are a few sites that can get those with some basic technical know-how started in the right direction

this is an excellent concept in waste processing that could generate usable fuel, energy and other resources,
www.mindfully.org/Energy/2003/Anything-Into-Oil1may03.htm
these are probably the best answer for small scale wind energy production (think de-centralized power grid)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_axis_wind_turbine
studying these will allow you to convert the VAWT rotation into use able electrical energy (conceptually, not specifically)
electronics-diy.com/electronic_schematic.php?id=661
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_generator
this is an interesting concept in architectural construction
nextbigfuture.com/2008/06/built-for-spee...nting-buildings.html
www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/217-3D-p...Dini-of-D_Shape.html
this is a good rescorce for learning stepper motor and servo controll and application
reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

as you can see there is no magic, or even that much complexity in these concepts, and most of them can be implemented very affordably. So the next time you find yourself pondering how kleptomania will effect resource distribution please remember that the first things should always come first and educate yourself on the necessary technology, and perhaps you can make a difference in laying the foundation for the next stage in human evolution.
Please remember that I started this post in order to try to find people to join me in intensive infrastructure research and application, and I wish for this thread to stay on topic.

end of post

If you want me (steve) to post anything on the TZM forum, please PM me or post here.

that post tells us quite a bit about him,
i gather he's probably as his title says a machinist of some kind with a fair bit of experience with electronics and automation, either way good luck to him, i don't think he's really had a good look at the Atlas site
