There has been a lot of talk about wanting to encourage musical and artistic skills within the city. This can be a great way to entertain guests and bring in popularity to the city.

Musical concerts and art events are fun and inspirational. Festivals and carnivals are always fun, and bring back thoughts of childhood. We can host many educational conventions in our convention halls and encourage researchers to the city. These are just a few ideas to bring in some tourism. There are many more. Let's see what you guys have.

Chase, yes i agree.
A sense of community and tribe is also a good thing and sorely lacking in todays socio-ecconomic systems.

plays, concert, etc are all an extension of this. The more cross pollination and open culture the better.

But i also believe that randomness and quirkiness help create the space to be this way. I hate formalised spaces that say "this is where the culture space is".
I prefer the open spaces to be grassed areas with tracks that just develop in them based on the usage patterns that "emerge" from that. Just hoe the festivals work.

Yes, with less work people will be able to enjoy these great social gatherings. It helps bring the community closer together. There is a sad lack of this here right now. I only see some when I go back to New York once in a while.

i heard of a commune in New Hampshire comprised of artists. They open to the public 1 weekend each year as an art show/sale. The money earned from this sale pays for most of their living expenses for the year. They probably use consignment type stores to sell their goods the rest of the year where the consignment shop takes 50% of the sale price of the art.

thats a great idea for them. Art has no energy value and its value is purely in the eye of the beholder. Hence its a perfect thing to sell for a community like this!!
