The idea of an internal resort has been brought up many times. This is one of the dozens of ideas we need to start coming up with for Atlas. When you think of resorts, there is a large difference from the local motel and a Vegas casino. Based on population and amenities this is what I imagine it being like.

Based on limited land and the small population of people within the city, the resort shouldn't be to extreme. We must consider that the more visitors we have the more of our supplies (food, utilities) must be used on them. Of course, we can add some of this into the initial planning, but people on vacation are wasteful and gluttonous in habit. Also, with limiting the visitors we won't have as much internal security to worry about, and can use supply and demand to our advantage.

In design, it will be modest in size. It won't need a private pool, restaurants and the like because all of these are public all around town anyway. It will be fascinating from the inside out, however, and really help plug the visitors into our society. Specialized entertainment and food services can be arranged, but once again will be a natural part of our day anyway so not necessary.

I think inside should be designed in a way that requires very little maintenance. Let's face it, this will require a turn down service and no body likes that job. By using certain designs and materials it will be easier to maintain and won't require nearly as much cleaning. For instance, brass kills many types of bacteria in days where stainless steal can take weeks. Having lights, desks, beds, etc built into the walls and rest of the building as much as possible there will be less to break and less surfaces to collect dust.

We can go all out with jacuzzi tubs and other extras, but personally I think we should avoid these in this city. They may work better in others down the line, but I think we should concentrate more on conservation of the environment and not luxury to an extreme degree. It can be a luxury resort without every amenity known to man. Plus, most of these may be available at local parks, pools, gyms and other public social areas.

I'd like to know what everyone things about how far to extreme luxury or eco-friendly resort we should go if this idea is adapted.
