I was planning on buying one of these, and possibly even starting up a dealership in NV, years ago. Now it seems like the perfect idea to get around town from the air, or to give guided tours of the city. We could make one simple enough and need to convert it to alternative fuels.

that is very interesting. however, remember, the government is going to regulate the hell out of small aircraft like that once they become mainstream and people start colliding in mid air. such regulations could make it extremely difficult to own or operate one of those.

It's legal and classified as a "experimental aircraft", meaning there is nearly none of the normal problems and limitations. You can fly anywhere a plane can, ride anywhere a car can, and only need a motorcycle and airplane license.

Unfortunately, we are not in the autonomous stage that we need to be for vehicles. I know there are several companies making different systems so cars communicate with each other and make crashes nearly impossible, but these seem to be held back or hidden many times from the public. Hopefully, a great majority of the city will be walking, bikes and monorail public transportation. However, if we are to have cars as well, here's something to look at.
theaircar.com- (motor development international) developed a car that runs on air, compressed air pushes the cylinders and can be refueled at and air pump. I saw this in 2007, but it seems they are still working on investors to make it commercial in the US.
cngnow.com- compressed natural gas, how to use in vehicles, where to buy, vote for legislative change.
solazyme.com- biology company making fuels out of other biological products, including fast growing algae and bacteria

Too bad we won't be near water. I forgot about this awesome James Bond car of today until looking through some of my old notes. The car is electric AND runs under water.

I'm not sure if this will be of interest in Atlas per se, but I wrote to the owner of Butterfly LLC (creator of the Super Sky Cycle above) and suggested they add the capabilities to go on water. Then the machine would be all encompassing, with the ability to go on the road, in the air, and in the water. Either way, it would be an awesome machine that we may be able to create later based on the design.
