Handling the manual for Atlas which is the wiki & blueprints will become a large task as the process moves along. This group will hold onto the keys to our future as it will be on paper before it becomes reality.

Hey everyone, been looking through the ACP manual, really excited with what I saw!! I wanted to start this thread to get discussion rolling on these forums. There's a lot to talk about and I don't want to overload with the first post but overall the manual looked great, and as Im sure josh and eggsworth are aware there's a lot of work to do. Can't wait to get that thing detailed out with blueprints, protocols and designs for every little inch of that city

There sure is a lot of work to be done. Think of the forums as a brainstorming activity. We are branching out all kinds of ideas and theories to see what may work best for Atlas. We still may be a bit away from a definitive Wiki for the moment as concerns are directed at grants for the Atlas Research Center.

Ok here is a bit of brainstorming I came up with last night. I felt like our approach to Atlas was beginning to focus too much on the city aspect, which is important, but I also feel like we need to consider the opposite end of the spectrum too; the consumer/resident.

Instead of thinking about what the city needs, we should compile a list of consumer items that are necessary and/or have a high demand. It would be like accessing the demand for products and building the city with those specifics in mind.

For instance, do we have plans for manufacturing simple items like toothpaste, toilet paper, dishsoap, swabs, etc?

I also was wondering about personal finances, Im wondering if this should be in the manual. For instance, a person leaves their place and moves to Atlas to contribute. Then suddenly they for some reason need to leave Atlas and return to their family. If this is to happen then that person will need to have money saved up as a security blanket so to speak. Maybe an important protocol is that everyone moving to Atlas has the means to survive if they have to go back into the monetary system.

It would be impossible with only Atlas City to consider consumerism on such a scale. Yes, everyone likes the luxuries of certain products, especially the dozens we take for granted in our bathrooms. I feel many of these are not as necessary, at least not for everyone. Unless you have extreme hygiene conditions with your ears, are they really necessary? Don't millions, if not billions, around the world go a lifetime without these and have no problems? It can be argued both ways, but I just used this as an example (I don't feel the need to use them unless I have an infection or something that is more extreme then what the body can naturally handle).

Until there are more cities like Atlas for us to link production with there will just have to be an understanding that not everything can be provided easily. If you've never been camping or had to "rough it" then the first stages of Atlas may not be the best place for a person. However, after we show that we can live that way many others may be inspired and lead to a network of mutually needed production. Some things will just need to be bought from the outside until this time.

Any finances you have from the outside you can keep. It wouldn't be a bad idea for every resident to stick a little nestegg away in a saving account to accrue interest when they move into Atlas. It is also, however, planned on giving certain vacation times/funds to residents. If someone had to move out they would not just be tossed into society once again. By that time, we would likely have implemented social welfare type products as long as certain procedures were followed. This is how I see it at the moment. Personally, I would keep renting my home while living in Atlas and putting that into a savings account for backup. Not everyone will own a home that moves in, but may be able to start something that can be tucked away for safe keeping. If the world changes in our time to the point that this safety is no longer needed, I would then like to invest it back into Atlas (or other RBE cities) to promote growth.

Like I said it was only a thought, dont take it so seriously I know youve put much work into this. Becoming too oriented in untested paths can lead to trouble and all Im trying to do is break locked thinking with ideas. Yes Im sure we can all go without my suggestions just fine, look at my picture for gods sakes Im camped near a glacier on a volcano roughing it wasnt the issue. My point is getting away from this categorical, disconnected respresentation of needs without actually looking at the people we are providing for. Perhaps it was more in line with a RBE down the line.

The point I needed to hear was that Atlas requires a heavy income to interact with the outside, as I figured. I just hope we don't become too dependent on that income to maintain satisfaction with living in Atlas. Again dont take my statements to heart I know you have a lot of attachements to this whole thing.

and the finances shpeel, all Im saying is that perhaps a section of the manual could be dedicated to personal finances and optimal routes (saving, renting, etc). It doesn't hurt for people interested to see suggestions and make better moves if this project actually lifts off the ground.

Cheers mate, take it easy eh?

It would be nice to have people that are on section 8 housing move in to Atlas homes and apartments, this way Atlas receives rent checks from the Govt. to use to expand growth.

Because it is business income taxes may have to be paid even though Atlas is a NPO.

Would it be easier to get grants if we add something like working to eliminate hunger, poverty and homelessness to the Atlas mission? This way we might be able to get separate grants for vertical farms and apartment buildings.

Heffe the problem with just reading words on a page is one does not know the mindset of the person writing the words.

Chase is a great, caring person, He has always been respectful in his posts to everyone. i do not think He was acting bossy or whatever negative emotion the words on the page may have looked like.

Peace.
