Summary from Zeitgeist forum

******

In today's system, money is exchanged for the treatment of health care. Worse, insurance companies extort profits from those who can afford premiums while they control and ration access to limited level of health care. Many cannot afford it so they scrimp by hoping that they do not suffer for their neglected health care. Without regular check ups, many diseases go unnoticed and shorten lives. Its true that anyone can go to the E.R., but if that was acceptable then lets abolish insurance and lets all go to the E.R. for our needs. Of course there is no good solution in the monetary system, but we have a solution. Our position is, society is barbaric, inhumane and uncivilized until every person has quality health care. Every system on Earth falls short of this in the monetary system which has failed to distribute health care to all humankind.

Atlas City has at its very heart a teaching hospital. Anyone interested in learning healthcare to help others will be encouraged, citizens will be taught free of charge in any profession, but doctors will run Atlas University and education system. Groups interested in research and development will be formed to research new drugs and nutrition to treat all health conditions and diseases that plague mankind until they are all wiped out.

In transition, Atlas citizens will get free health care. Outsiders can plan on getting treatment at reasonable rates, without insurance and as a source of reimbursement for Atlas City during transition which must purchase many medical supplies, equipment and medications in the monetary system. Eventually the world will adopt this view, for now, join us in building Atlas City.

Agreed! In addition, I believe once people are freed from the drudgery of work, every individual will seek to have some understanding of at least basic medical procedures, so that when a loved is facing an ailment, rather then rushing to the hospital for every minor condition we might be able to address most simple conditions (that require only medicine or a change in diet or sleeping habit, not surgeries) at home...of course medicines that currently require prescriptions, will be open to all people in the Atlas city (right?).

It is proven time and time again that a "happy" person is a healthy one. Those plagued with stress are much more common to succumb to ailments. Many argue that if everyone was allowed to go to the hospital whenever they wanted free of charge then the place would be over run with patients and be chaos. This is only true in the society we live in today. As a former health care worker, I have seen many of the problems and injustices done in the current system. Two main differences in our systems will be that:

1. People will be healthier in general. There will be more time to sleep. There will be less time to work. There will be available gyms, pools, meditation classes. There will be support groups and a general sense of each citizen to help each other out. This, coupled with our eventual advancements in health care (since industry and money will not be holding back on medications and technologies) will eliminate the issues of the number of sick individuals in society.

2. Preventative care will be a primary concern. Most of our current preventative care is so expensive that people can't afford or don't want to bother with it. The flu vaccine seems to be the only exception at this time. Most people are too far gone by the time they realize they have a serious illness (this is very common with cancer at the moment). The obvious changes will be better and free vaccines, scans, blood work, etc. Also, I feel that it should be taken to other lengths. Preventative in the aspect of the cities creation. Too many synthetics pollute our air, clothes, food, cooking supplies and most aspects of our life. With clean energy, organic foods and limitations of products that have not been deemed safe (or deemed questionable at the time) will help eliminate some of these issues. From no VOC paints (volatile organic compounds- the reason paints smell bad and these compounds can off-gas for decades poluting your home, even many carpets do this) to getting rid of many synthetic fibrous materials (clothes, bedding that often cause or exacerbate things like asthma and allergies) we can lessen many medical needs by these preventative cares.

Is this all you? Your entire summary was excellent I just think this part is critical. If we were all new CPR that would be a great start. Now its not mouth to mouth when you find a person on the floor, but heart compressions in a minute(is this right?) Therefore possible transfer of room in a hospital creating nothing more than operations in the hospital. then transfer that room into learning center of health care. we would be our familys doctor(the entire family)

The summaries are summaries of entire discussions that took place on the zeitgeist movement nevada chapter forums
Once you realize that every beings purpose in life is to learn, it becomes easier to forgive them for their mistakes.

The future doesn’t exist. The only time we can be peaceful is now, because now is all that exists.

What will happen for those within Atlas if they need a specialist? Since i very much doubt that Atlas will have every kind of specialist there is. How will they get the treatments they need since they wont have money to leave the city and pay for the medical attention they need?

Atlas specialists will be specialists in more then one field. Of course, at first there will not be one for every department, but a good number will be taken care of. For others, it will not be difficult for Atlas medical staff to get in touch with other specialists outside the city for advise, or to see if the patient should leave the city.

Why will they not have money of their own? The first stages of Atlas will involve people that already exist in the monetary system. That means when they sell their homes, cars, etc. they will carry that money into Atlas. It is still their own personal money to spend or save as they wish. They may donate some to Atlas, or save it for emergencies or family members. There is no guarantee that they will not have money, and if they don't we bring the specialist in.

In the later progressions, all medical staff (as with all citizens) will learn a wide range of skills and specialties to much greater lengths then is common today.

To answer the "why will they not have money of their own", I am assuming there will be people that come into the city that lived from paycheck to paycheck. Probably will not always be true, but its best to plan for instances like this before they occur. Even if they sell their cars or houses, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be enough money to pay costly medical expenses.

And i understand that the hopeful outcome will be that other cities will come about. So even if our city does not have the special skills needed, one of the other cities might.

The question is meant for the beginning of the city. Just curious as to whether the circumstance has been considered and if the city would pay for the specialist.

Im sorry for saying this but I find selling health dispicable, what if some Outsider that had no money looked for medical treatment in Atlas,
What if Atlas was the only place for some kind of treatment, would it be SOLD for outsiders???

I find people taking medicine at their will very dengerous, most of the super-bacterias today are imune to anti-biotics because people used it without concearn. In my opinion medical treatment could be donne mostly at home
We could have a medical station at every home or every X numbers of homes in which the person would have their vital signs checked along with some basic examination modalities. This station could be conected to the web where the patient could have an appointment with his Doc via Internet without leaving his whereabouts
