I am a huge fan of seasteading as an easy way of escaping the jurisdiction of pre-existing nations and thereby having the opportunity to grow into whatever form the citizenry chooses. Is there anyone else here interested in something like this?

It interests me, though I reckon we would need a landbase of operations before going into the sea, so we have a dry dock area to build/repair seagoing vessals.

I even have a place in mind near to the UK that I might consider parking the first prototypes:

www.sealandgov.org

My very rough calcuations show me that cost wise it could easily be 10 times to build and operate at sea than on land.

I can imagine one of the first industries we might have would be something like this:

this seems like a great idea. and an easy way to escape money and laws of any other current society.

how about this idea for cheap land and a city you need a rock shore line with deep water close to shore. we build out from the shore line into the ocean on pilons or floating using a large dome structure with strategic windows for light and air or a retractable section build out the inside into a city or a collection of these into a cityscape giving access to shore while remaining seperate the water could provide all we need that we can't grow ourselves.
I know at first this seams a bit dark but acrylic comes in many thicknesses and can be a good portion of the dome.
or we could go underwater build a vary large dome underwater with a walking path to the shore anchored down if we keep the air flowing from inside out we should be able to keep it one atmosphere if the structure is built right. we could build out the city from there. most people cringe at the thought though.

That is an awesome city design! If Atlas catches on I would really like to have a sea stead city. Or possibly a mini city that is mobile and can concentrate on marine biology and other sea concern.

Floating city/research station, Physalia, also cleans the oceans water as it travels.
