I'm totally at a loss to understand why everyone here doesn't have sketchup.

Its a low impact, easy to use program and its designed to be mobile and work on low powered machines such as lap tops.

Its free, its top of the line, its one of the best programs out there, and its very easy to share files and to find models to import.

Eggsworth, Chase, Jinx, Josh, This means you. Why don't you at least have sketchup so you can look at the models on your own puter? WTF?

sketchup.google.com/

Anyhow. On the offhand chance that somebody actually does have a good reason
to not get it, I thought I would open up some of this for us to work together.

Of chief concern is painting. I don't know what your choices would be for
painting.

so i am going to post the options it comes with. Also you should know that we can create new paint maps fairly easy if you want something thats not here.

From now on this is a step in the process, you guys get to tell me how you want these things painted.

damn. something is not right with my mouse its not letting me drag things more than a little bit and this screwing everything up.

anybody know how to fix that?

it won't continue to drag things more than a little ways.

then if say for instance i am in paint it just drops something i am trying to move, or if i am in autcad i can't select a whole batch of things just a few,?

I would have numbered them, but thanks to this glitch i can't.

my 3d modeling skills arent advanced at all, especially when you start getting CAD based. I just never considered it a good use of space on my computer.

you don't have to model anything, as a member of this organization, i can just build you models.

I'm not asking you to model anything, i am asking you to have your own beta testing model tool in order to have your own game live version of ATLAS CITY.

IE;

I am going to design Atlas City. Is going to happen very suddenly actually and you should be ready for the everything to accelerate pretty fast.

To fully climb on board you need a model viewing and walk thru program which is low end and low impact.

And that is also what sketchup is.

I'm not asking for you to get autocad, a file ten or a hundred times larger and requiring ten times more memory and 3 times the process demands.

This is a tiny, itty bitty portable utility program designed to allow you to just walk around.

It seems to me that in our professional relationship, if i am going to do you the courtesy of drawing for you, you at least should take the responsibility of using the model viewing feature.

On top of anything else, you could just paint them, something tells me that just painting them might be right up your alley, in fact.

aside from that, the thing to focus on is that those are the colors i can paint these models. Consider this carefully.

We can also paint up new coloring and etc.

And thats probably best to do in the long run or it will all look like sketchup to modelers.

Also, its very easy to make our own little painting in icons.

The point is, soon you will be asking me to design a building or 5.

When i do that, i won't be spoiling you, I will do it in autocad and then post images and then post images again pre-painted and then you get to tell me how to paint it.

see ?

Prometheus, Sketchup is only for Winblows. I run a Linux based system. Sketchup doesn't work in WINE, hence why I don't use it.

I'm not involved in the conceptualization team, in fact, I typically just mark the whole forum as read and ignore the posts.

Now, I might run Winblows 7 in a bit, seemingly forced down my throat by the fact Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint and Jolicloud have failed for me...I might install Sketchup, very unlikely, but still a slight possibility. Frankly, I don't want to waste even a bit of space for something I will never use.

Hope that cleared up your "WTF".

I do have it and I do use it to look at the models built. I just didnt have time to do any of that till now.

Thanks for your concern though. Keep up the good work!

i need to defrag.

lol

so, on along about me briefly.

I have come to the conclusion that I'm suffering from burn out and that this
is effecting my performance in sorting muggle insanities.

So, I'm going to be taking a break from saving the humanz throughout the rest
of the summer. I will be coming back strong in late fall.

That means that I'm reducing my workload from full time to part time.

And taking two day long on average total mini vacations.

So, the upside for you is that while I am reducing down to 10 hours a weeks
from 60, you guys are the place that I am interested in giving that attention to for the simple reason that if i don't have to deal too much with muggle insanities and can just draw that is recreational and low stress for me.

That being said, let me list a few of the things that are high stress for me.

The number one high stress for me is the sensation I have that so far nobody has opened these gifts of mine and actually started painting them
or adding new details to them or posting images of them.

This is the relationship, very quickly, which we need to have.

Firstly, you guys will wrap your head around just using simple paint or sketchup models to convey to me quickly a much more complicated idea.

If its just paint out of windows accessories, thats a side view and a top
view, with floor plans.

And a verbal description, and an attempt at measurements.

From there, I will generate Architecturally sound sketchup models (rather than architecturally flat sketchup models as sketchup alone normally does.)

What I will then do is post the model to the share file system, and you guys will pick it up, paint it, post images of it, and in general use it
to further the conversation or arrive at new draw requests.

So the load i am carrying for image poster, painter, and size estimator has to get sourced back to the rest of you and I have to really get exercise
drawing what you request.

That saves me the time and energy of doing the things you guys can do to participate, involves you in the process and the work load, and gives me
more time to draw.

There are a lot of models waiting for you guys to go open, take screenshots
of and post, paint, add your own boxes and maybe write in side notes in paint.

Etc.

So, more about sketchup.
earthship3czz1.jpg

the edit and hide or unhide buttons (right click on an object to bring up the options menu) allows you to paint or interact with things through the surface layers.

The pointer button is important if you want to point at something in order to explode it or identify it or hide it.

the paint tool is easy to see.

The walk around tools allow you to walk around and move inside of the model in a semi natural way.

To add components, which are mini model props, like doors and windows or plants and animals or people or etc, you click on windows from the drop down menu tab and then components, which then opens a dialog option interface asking you to select the model, usually from their online warehouse of models.
