i think we have to realize need to start with as simple as possible first. there is nothing wrong list out everything and what atlas need, but also need to look at how much fund atlas have, its impossible attempt to sketch out a metropolis but no funding to build it.

i suggest we starts from simple and nice building like this. inside will have everything else mentioned in the other thread. anyone have any idea how much building like this would cost?

im not architect or civil engineer, just trying to simplify the atlas city design first.

the overall simple plan can look like this

the reason why recycling must be at ground floor because when ppl live in the accommodation, it will generate trash. ppl dump garbage and straight went into recycling center. so actually removes the garbage man's job

for water desalination/tank it is the same. ppl live and use water.. it goes direct to tank, get processed, filtered.. water pump backs up and able to reuse water again

These are all things we have discussed for many months and it comes back to a few simple statues.

We want to build a city that is self sustaining, modern, and automated.
We want to do so in a way that is not extremely expensive because we are based on grants for financing.
We don't want to be too small to make it useless (this is a point of concept city. There are towns that live this way, but to make a modern city would be an accomplishment).
We don't want a city too large that is is difficult to manage since there will be many unknowns for the first year or two within such a new creation.

Some basics, but for those of us in Las Vegas, NV, where this group originated, we like to use City Center as a model. If you don't know what that is it is a ridiculously huge new creation that topples casinos. It has it's own monorail, mini freeway, and everything else expected in a city. It IS a miniature city. We aren't going for the glamor of that, but it gives a good standpoint to many things we wish to accomplish city wise.

hi chase, so atlas has decided will use Citycenter as model. then you have to close some of the forum designing part. then create city plan improvement/comments thread section for feedback. then you also didnt say how much it would cost

there is a cost engine in sketchup.

I'm at a loss as to interpret your design ideas.

such a building will cost millions of dollars or tend of millions of dollars...

I did mention that.

If I model it for you in sketchup and you then take the model, you can run around and plug things into the cost engine and determine a pretty close estimate.

I'm not familiar with the cost engine myself so it would be the same if anybody else figures out how to use it.

I count 14 or 15 stories, It looks like a rectangular foot print, with an indent in the middle and then you have two or three buildings off to the side.

As I have stated previously;

What we really need here is space use information. What are the rooms inside of that building and how are those rooms used and how big do they need to be in order to fulfill those uses?

Where did you get this image? How closely do you want to follow this style?

Whats a side view from the other side?

prometheuspan, chase said will use the citycenter as model, would cost more than the simple sketch i suggested. the construction phase is either will save a lot of money by using volunteer workforce or burn a lot of money using typical capitalism method

then theres nothing wrong making a grandscale as long as capable, its better if able to show outside world that RBE works much better than capitalism

okay. I see one cul de sac and a half dozen buildings, none of which are
by themselves particularly impressive.

I still can't find a good top view.

I think the point to get at or back to which you were making is that the thing to do is to start pragmatically small and work our way up.

This is my point also.

For this reason, I imagine a circular arrangement with a dozen buildings between 12 and 26 stories tall, as the first initial installation. I also imagine thus pie shaped zones, and city growth which makes larger buildings
just outside of that original circle.

I suppose I will quickly illustrate.
atlasgrowthphases1.jpg

The green inner circle is buildings 100 meters tall. Each layer out is another 100 meters taller.

So the idea is that we build the green inner circle, and each new color coded ring is a new larger building set, built 3 or 5 years later.

the blue ring is 200 meters tall, the red ring 300 meters, the purple ring
400 meters, and the yellow ring 500 meters.

How does this sit with you all?

For Zones, those would seem to be radial pie slices, where new buildings
are the same function of older buildings but larger.

Here I have made all buildings grey, main transportation routes in orange,
and zones in red.

so thats 5 layers as is, multiply by 3 that gives us 15 years or by 5 thats 25 years.

The current tallest buildings are 800 meters tall, so to keep up the pattern,

that would look like this;
atlasgrowthphases5.jpg
atlasgrowthphases6.jpg

That then gives us three more layers, for eight total, times 3 years each thats 24, or times 5 years each 40 years.

It is meant to be a model in many aspects, not necessarily the ones your looking at. We have some common problems, such as utilizing land space and producing our own power. However, City Center is a mall and hotel more then anything which doesn't apply to our design. Also, it's interesting to use it for an upscale model on price compared to what we will be trying to create. I forgot how much it was to build that, but our plans are not as extravagant and gaudy.
