So this is what I have so far for what we will need in Atlas. I’d like to make a scale model sometime, but it’s near impossible to realize every building we will need, how big them must be, how many are needed, etc. PLEASE help me get everything on here we will need. The sooner that happens the sooner a more realistic city model can come about with some actual figures and detail.

Power storage- battery storage for bad weather
Water/glass/plastic/paper/cloth recycling
Compost center- people can have personal ones as well
Material storage- like a public Walmart-type facility since we will have little personal storage
Vertical farms- marketplaces can be set up around these to hand out the food
Convention centers- will host a wide variety of events and clubs
Electronics repair and replacement- eventually create our own cells, tv’s and other devices
Workshops- wood shop, metal work, mechanics
Computer room- public area for everyone to use computers and equipment if they don’t have them at home
Library- though most of this will likely be online, I prefer to actually hold a book and flip through pages
Public laundry- can likely be housed in each residential unit
Wind farms- depend on the land
Cattle/fish breeding land
Restaurants- scattered throughout the sectors
Bike racks- for public transportation should be set up everywhere, bikes can also be used freely by everyone
Fleet garage- for both internal electric cars, and cars from guests or to leave the city
Barber/salon and the like- I think these are useless, but some people think of their skill as an art so I guess I’ll include it as well

Entertainment and Convention center use
gym
Pool/spa/sauna- can be in gyms
Tennis/basketball/baseball/etc- these take up a lot of space, if they are to be implemented the design will have to incorporate many uses for the singular plot of land
Horseshoes/billiards/shuffle board/air hockey/darts/ arcade/pinball/ping pong/crochet and dozens of others should be put in a general entertainment center. Ever been to Gameworks?
Track and field- can be put in the gym
Bowling/dance halls/art studio/music room/archery/martial arts/gaming center- can be put with some of the other areas, but mostly require a separate wall at least or done outside (maybe the roof).

I may have gone too far with all the fun things, but I tried to think of anything myself or people I know enjoy and put it in there. The difficult part is realizing each and every building that will be mandatory for civilized living.

Hi

One type of "power storage- battery" called flywheel battery.

More about buildings:

How about

1) sewage treatment works?

2) Fire security in the buildings? Do we need a fire station?

3) Security force, do we need some special traning location or building for the security force?

4) Martial arts training hall...

"I prefer to actually hold a book and flip through pages
Public laundry- can likely be housed in each residential unit"

I agreed. I think this is so much comfortably, but we can have both of the alternative so everyone of us can make a choose. The same for the kitchen, some of us maybe only want to eat on the restaurants (I mean a kitchen which never be used is a resource wasted)?

Sewage treatment will be needed. I'm not sure how different that would be then the normal water recycling though. Seems like they are pretty much one in the same.

The buildings will mostly be made of fireproof materials so even if there is one internal fire it will be nearly impossible to spread to adjacent units. Plus each household will have state of the art fire systems. Not everything can be planned, however, so a few firetrucks will be necessary. I would guess they would be placed in the garage with the rest of fleet, or possibly have a few tiny buildings in a few sectors around the center. Haven't really thought of this much.

Security will be an interesting aspect. It can be dealt with in one large system that watches the entire city (not unlike a Vegas casino security center), or have several in main buildings. Most of our security will be done through technology. A multitude of cameras in necessary areas and places tourists will travel, security cards on certain buildings, etc. Hopefully we won't need a great deal of guards. With well informed guards given accurate instructions by those watching the cameras, and with the alarm/alert systems that can be implemented most problems will be sent out to notify staff quickly and accurately.

I did mention martial arts above. This is something that, in my opinion, require a studio (that can be part of the gym) and an outside arena (athletics field). It probably won't need a separate area, and I believe that all residents should be encouraged to take some type of martial art. I'm preferable to Kung Fu due to my training, but hopefully we can have many types of instructors for different purposes.

Hi

Sorry I didn´t see the martial art. I do Taekwondo (ITF) for my self, but I´m not a black belt .
Interesting with fireproof materials.

I think a top priority would be the construction of a water treatment facility, which would have the following processes in purifying water:
1. Filtering of chemicals such as chlorine and/or (for places like Nevada, arsenic)
2. Filtering of microscopic particles
3. Boiling of water
4. Reverse osmosis

It would be great if someone could design that!

When it comes to buildings we should think of them in terms of sustainability and efficiency.

Recycling, composting, water treatment, and any other similar use area can all be built into the same building. This will be easy to build with upgraded tech already available but not in use. Since this area will be taking in so many things it will also be outputting many reused materials like paper and refurbished electronics, plastics, glass and many others. This will be a very centralized industrial type area but we can change the way industrial area work and look giving it a whole new image. Our industrial area will not output any pollutants what-so-ever and will meld with the look and maintain the beauty of Atlas.

thanks. So now you have a macro, about one of the best i have run into for pragmatics in terms of thinking it through for a civil engineer.

Now just come up with 3 versions of scale for each of those things and then
tell me what you want me and autocad to draw.

In my opinion our technology/education center is the most important building to be made in Atlas. This is a debated topic though, the technology/education building, the hospital, the agriculture tower and the living units are probably the most important buildings. They will have to be very efficient, multi-use buildings. Use your imagination and try to incorporate logical functionality and efficiency into every aspect of the building.

Overall we want buildings that we love because of how functional they are and how beautiful they are.

yes, well, thats a good list and i intend to draw several versions of each kind of building.

Before we start, a building is composed of sub buildings which are rooms;
each room has something that happens inside of it.

So we need to determine what rooms are in a building and what goes on in each room and then ergonomics determines after that how big each room is and etc.

Then we stack rooms.

my post of the minutes from our last meeting includes the building designs we talked about as being the necessities for the beginning of Atlas City.
