TOPIC: Proposed Atlas City Spiral Design

Proposed Atlas City Spiral Design 2 years, 2 months ago #1492

Now this image is a little crude but it just paints the basic idea. I'm going to do a much more improved version in Sketchup a little later on.

Having the city as a spiral is a very significant design. It minimizes spaces and keeps the entire city in formation order. I'd say the spiral design should be the design we shoot for. I'll have a cleaner version soon.

Thanks.

I'm trying to visualize the pros and cons of this design in my head. It's a tricky proposal, and not one with a lot of previous design to base it off of. The only main con I can see (only because a big part of my thought process is on food within the home) is that it would block many residents' homes from sunlight so the indoor aquaponics would run into problems. I think we should make pros and cons lists for each and every design (city and individual building). Then we can have everyone brainstorm on ways to make everything more efficient. I never try to deplore any idea, but being a critic helps make things more efficient later by trying to spot out potential problems ahead of time.

Well again, this is not a cemented idea, but an idea to ignite idealism. It's good that we look at a structure and discover the pro's and con's.

Another idea of a design is the Spider web design. Designing a city like a spider's web. With spaces in between the structures and roadway to encompass such things as hyrdoponics, aquaponics, etc. But the more we get the ball rolling on what it is we want to create and see through the city and work on the macrocosm first off, then move on into the microcosm of functionality, this will bring clarity and fundamental process to the table rather than us just starting out randomly. Remember, we build the body, then we build the insides. This is the beneficial way of looking at it. We don't want to jump the gun.

Do you see Atlas through this configuration of design?

I certainly do.

Humm... that's an interesting one. I'll have to think this one over. I always try to visualize a day in the city. What my house looks like, walking around the city and the trees that litter the area. This design is unique, but many times artistic design takes away from efficiency (sorry if I use that word too much. My mind always works on making things more efficient with what we are limited to using). Would that outline basically be the setup for the residential around a main center area? I still think it's difficult to depict properly the entire city since we still have a lot of unanswered questions about size, thus changing necessities inside this city.

The city has to be designed around a set number of inhabitants (with plans for more, but not infinitesimally growing). Then we can determine more accurately the space needed between buildings, for walkways and other transportation, etc. I keep saying I see it like a school campus. Lot's of nature, walkways between buildings, no streets, electric carts for distances, but besides that very simple. In which case, spiral is more confusing then circular. I do like the unique concept though. I'll try to put more thought into this one during my next meditation.

Remember, it's not mimicking the web exactly, but giving the amalgamation of a web-like design implemented into a city with the ideas we are bringing forward.

So what would be some benefits to this design?

My only qualm is that it's basically the circular design with style, which is fine, but would complicate certain constructions. For instance, if we do decide to put a circular tram around the city like previously proposed the web design will get in the way. Now, instead of following a walkway it will be cutting across roofs and other structures. This will cause more noise and shade then in the normal circular design that is unobstructed. This is just one example. I really don't want to sound offensive, that's not my intent with this post, but the only metaphor I can think of is this. The spiral design is like a tiny umbrella in your drink. Sure it looks nice, but what's the practicality of it? Could it pose more problems, more construction?

if you decide to have a tram, the city design can be compensated to have the tram in effect. The whole concept doesn't need to be removed, it's just an adjustment we would need to do to make sure the path is clear. Remember that this design is not final, only an adaptive idea that can be modified. So now that we have certain obstacles, let's find a way to perfect the design to suit our needs. Let's work to design the entire glass rather than the umbrella, this is the starting point.

How do you see this being fixed? What areas need to be changed? How can we work to construct "the glass." Let's be the problem solvers.

Just a question I have here though is: Why would we need a tram for a city that's only estimated to be at it's beginning phase 1 square mile in size? Everything would mainly be accessible through the roadways. At this beginning phase, I just wonder what would be the purpose of a tram. I could definitely understand implementing it once we expand more, but I have a difficult time seeing it when the city is at a very small state to begin with.

im sure circle just think of a baseball field. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_stadiums. 56,000 people wonder if they have parking? half floors? human monorail would look great in there. the technology you seek will come. all we have to do is build it and they will come.we want our ideas because we want to better humanity.
