Just one neat robotics I found. These guys at Willow Garage are great, makes me wonder if they have looked into a resource based economy. the PR2 robot could be helpful to our city.

This is a 12 part series showing all sorts of Automation currently being used all over the world. Completely automated hydroponic farms.

im really diggin this automation.

the beauty is that these job replacers will be raising the bar of the minimum for a job, which will inevitably increase basic education for all of society, and that is why I love automation so much.

One of the problems of automation and the resulting need to high ever more educated folk, is the many folk with very little education, or who simply cannot be educated very high and need a paying job.

As such I tend to look at how one can create very low skilled jobs, whilst automating some part of the jobs so as to deskill a job enough that just about anyone can do it.

Eg. I might automate the bottle coming out of the fridge, but leave it to the human to carry and hand deliver it.

i understand what your saying and fully agree. Automation and Efficiency seem to go hand in hand, another aspect is waste. When you bottle something that empty bottle becomes waste, thats not good. all waste and recycled goods should be fully automated.

bottles are reusable so not so much a waste issue. automation requires a high degree of skill to set up but maintaining it is much easier that can be taught to someone fairly easy complex yes but not programming the thing again. keep it clean lubricated and the chips cool as the basics. I do disagree with taking all labor out of the getting things people will need to be responsible at some point for feeding them selves like going to a community pantry for fresh produce or we become divorced from our food entirely and end up with the current mentality of food come from the store so we don't need farmland anymore, or meat is in the meat dept of the store so we can stop killing animals. these are the common meems we must avoid or we just end up at consumerism again this is what happened when we stopped having anything to do with our food but eating it. their are those among us that would like to grow crops or at least oversee them, this leads me to another aspect alluded to earlier the assigning of people to tasks for upkeep first it is the root of class struggle second it is against the ideal of free form living and self determinism placed in such high regard just because they have a skill does not mean they have the desire.
personaly I would have everyone assigned to work details based on their skills abilities for a five to eight hour work day with mandatory education but thats not for me to do we can have order or freedom but we must stick to one.

very cool automation video

dox11, we arent planning on taking people away from what they want to do. if someone is interested in agriculture, they can work in such a department.

as far as people being detached from their food, I don't know what more we could do about this, because not everyone can be involved at every step of the process. Most people will simply be on the receiving end as we anticipate much of our food production to be automated

You forget, each home is set up with an aquaponics system in the current designs. Each member will be involved in their personal crops, thus learning about simple agricultural skills that have been taken away from the common man.
