I did not conceive this idea, I will tell you I got it from the latest Halo game, however, I feel it is worthy of discussion.

Basically, in this Halo game, there was an AI over the city. It controlled everything from lights to warning signs to street lights, and was tapped in to all the city camera systems.

I feel something like this could be very beneficial for the efficiency of our city. If there was a fire in a building, this AI would automatically call the fire department (it would be able to tell if the fire was big or just a smoke alarm). The AI could then route traffic in order to get the emergency services to their destination as quick as possible. This is just one way in which this AI would benefit.

The overall design of the Venus Project, when implemented globally, is to basically have a global computer system to delegate and manage resources, and to manage construction.

With a prototype, or phase 1 AI, we could lead the way to Artificial Intelligent systems working with humans on a daily basis. We could even go so far as to have an AI over each building/home, or what have you.

All these AIs would channel back up the hierarchy and a net of knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the world around us would be woven.

Each building would be outfitted with a simple computer to manage its basic needs like power, water, sanitation etc. then each sector of buildings would have another computer a little more powerful to manage that sector all the way back to the hub central computer system to oversee the entire city.

Although we do recognize that most aspects of the city will require human labor, we should, immediately, seek to automate as much as possible. I love the idea of detecting the magnitude of a fire and coordinating traffic, to accelerate the arrival of the fire department. Although that idea is of little practicality in a town of 1000 people, we will have to wait until the larger counterparts are raised. Or perhaps we could design it for implementation in a monetary society, i do not see why they would decline such a proposition....oh, right...MONEY. In order for such a system to operate properly every structure would need to refurbish their smoke detectors, and who is going to pay for all of this?
