Domes are the the most efficient way to spend materials costs to get the largest internal space.

I have a lot of ideas about domes, and I hope that we can explore some dome
ideas together. Before i go too deep, I'd like to here other peoples ideas.

My biggest problem is the limitation to a single floor building. I'm not sure what type of dome structures we could use since the home design, agriculture, and pretty much everything requires multi-level design.

I'm not sure where you got the idea of such a limitation.

I was working on a 10 story domed building but then i found out the hard way that the sketchup importer can't handle donuts, so all the floors were vaporized at import.

Buckminster Fuller once designed a domed arcology with something like 500 stories.

But multiple stories takes away the benefit of less building materials through less support walls. Even Nanos stated this limitation. If that's the case, is there any other major benefit to using dome structures?

thank you for asking harder questions.

thats an explanatory draw request. Consider the scalar fractal and valence.

No matter how you look at it, you can still build a dome which gives you levels inside of a dome.

every concentric participation that truly intersects for structure also participates in that conservation of materials pay off.

The real question in complexity of this question is how bulbuous and large buildings and rooms can be before they are not going to hold up as drawn.

A building which takes advantaged of underground stories, for instance, can
still have that dome on top of it, a dome can top a cylinder, (or a square or cube for that matter.)

You can ring the perimeter of a dome with verandas, creating a stories structure that also strongly re-enforces the dome itself.

Obviously such measures go up and down, as you spend materials and conquer space. All of the gains don't flash away the moment you have interior support walls.

Personally I think domes are ugly and not very appealing to the eye. Otherwise I don't know enough about them to speak on behalf of their superior sustainability, if that is even true. I have yet to see a dome building I find aesthetically pleasing.

I would say that yes we should use domes if they are more efficient and not just more efficient for one person but for groups so everyone is happy. You can't please everyone though.

Well, there are things they are good for and things not so.

They aren't very good for verticalizing as compared to straight up floors
and stories.

They aren't very good for impressive defense aesthetics.

I would say that there are people who go dome cult on me and domes aren't the
end all and be all of everything.

At the same time they are very good in some places and as parts of some structures, particularly roofs, agoras, swimming pools...

I don't think Atlas city should be an ode to domes. The single largest problem with them is that past a certain size and you are in the shade.

The long "earth ship" designs evolved specifically because of this, and are
the more rational inheritors of the domes previous throne for the central theme of structures; IE; Fairly skinny buildings facing the sun.

That could actually be interesting for use of the visitor hotel. They have the normal hotel living quarters type structure, but also have a pool, garden, etc inside a translucent dome. Reminds me of the Adventuredome theme park here in Vegas.

LOL Adventure Dome! They seriously have to demolish Circus Circus. That place has turned into a dump.

Funny you should mention visitor hotel as i just did a model i ended up thinking of that and wasn't sure whether or not to introduce it.

I'm just now importing a different dome concept (the reverse of this one, the levels are around the outside instead of forming an internal tower, its sort of a zen donut hole anti tower. lol)

The point of these studies being that domes can be used to create interesting
multi story buildings.
