I thought I already had this thread somewhere, but I can't find it. Here are some more materials that will likely be used in Atlas buildings.

Foamcrete www.foamconcrete.co.nz/
Flexcrete www.flex-crete.com/
Carbon Concrete www.ecofriend.org/entry/carbon-concrete-the-eco-friendly-alternative-to-cement/

Solar glass www.wisegeek.com/what-is-solar-glass.htm

Seems to me like more natural building green techniques are being put aside. Earthships with recycled materials, natural dirt/stone, adobe and rammed earth buildings are pretty sweet. Straw bale building is efficient. just putting it out there.

These were voted inefficient for this design due to their many limitations and/or maintenance concerns. Straw bale is great insulation, but there are risks and stability problems with them. Rammed Earth, such as Earthships use, is very cheap and effective, but are limited to single and double story buildings for the most part.

I have built with straw bale before and there are some pros and cons fer sure.
One con is settling.

And another is rotting.

Like wood, straw bale can only last so long before it rots, even if its treated and encapsulated.

This isn't eco village we are doing here. I think eco village is neat, and i want to support people to do that, but its just not what we are doing.

Perhaps people will build eco villages on the outskirts of Atlas city, that would be fine.
