Atlas City Project

We should try to specify the types of buildings we will need. Here are some ideas as discussed in the past.

Recycling centers- water, waste, compose

Energy- most will be per building, but a city wide system could be geothermal, windmill farms, etc.

Hospital/Education- center of town, no idea on design yet, except I believe a multi story building is the general consensus due to lack of land

Housing- affixed with self sustaining energy technology, internal water reusing designs (as mentioned based on earthship designs), internal aquaponic design. Should be constructed with recycled/reusable materials. Personally, I think we could have a design like Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. They have EVERY house facing south (I believe). There reason is for prayer, but it's useful for us as well because each house can grow food and use passive heating if facing south. Technically, it doesn't have to "face" south, but must have a southern wall of glass despite if it's a front or back wall. this is how earthships are heated and grow food.

Well, here are some ideas to start with. Let's get some good ideas going!

I have been putting some thought into the neccessary design for the first phase of the city to function.

Chase, if you could direct me to the post for what we talked about at the last meeting I would appreciate it as your idea now fits into my model for the beginning of the city.

So, what will the city need?

Manufacturing

Chase's housing idea (this will manage food production to a decent extent, and help manage energy consumption for heating)

External power production

resource management/distribution center

food production

We really need an architect and a drafter. We have some good ideas, but we need something solidified. Everything we have right now are just concepts. We need to put our heads together and solidify a definite form of living domocile/building, etc., so we definitely have something tangible to create.

This is going to be very similar to what I'm trying to draw up right now. Well, I can't draw very well so I'm getting some friends to help. The layering of residential, green area and walkway is precisely what I had in mind as well (similar to a university campus). There was a city design, I thought it was for Dubai, that I wanted to incorporate. I can't find any pictures so it'll have to wait for me to upload what we draw out. Basically, the roofs are interconnected in residential areas. They can be used as walkways between roofs for jogging and perusing, but also designed to fit more solar panels over space that is not otherwise usable. I'm sure I'm not explaining this very well so I'll just wait for a design to be drawn out.

Again I really like the comprehensive ideas. I feel that this is the level of detail we need to get to before we should apply for grants. i would say we have alot to learn from this website, even if it isnt too horribly detailed.

However it is missing a few things (education, food production, school)

Me too. I contacted the builder and asked if we could share ideas and constructive criticisms. I'm waiting for a response.

EDIT: he responded to me today. I'm going to start asking questions and sharing building and city designs and see where it goes.
