I like the idea of shipping container houses. This recycles shipping containers plus they are very strong because they are all steel.
I also like the earthship homes as well.

The initial phase of the city will have one story (at least) below ground (taking advantage of Earths temperature control), above that, these are great concepts! I am picturing a circle with about 50 living units at around 900 square feet each (approx) with food services, rec centers and other essential facilities scattered about between. A center facility will have industrial manufacturing / services that make the city work.

Keep the ideas coming! We are looking at some land opportunities and these ideas will become reality sooner than we may be prepared for so lets keep these ideas coming.

I will post some ideas of my own. I have designed through sims 3 several home ideas and apartments. I will give exact dimesnsions in that post.

I think the shipping containers would actually be a good idea for the first apartments for Atlas City. Instead, you would have the core of the building and the containers would be slightly stuck inside (the rest outside), so the container would be able to "hold" its own weight. I could live quite content in one of the container apartments...

Plus earth sheltered homes offer protection from the forces of nature. I have been interested with this type of housing as well. I have designed some nice basic earth shelter homes in games. I always try to remember something that would actually structurally work as well. I am not an architect but I am very creative. You can take advantage of hilly areas and build multiteired apartments.
I once saw a three story apartment that was built into the side of a multi teired hill.
I also like the idea of community gardens and growing plants. I hope I can provide some good ideas if at any time you decide to use one of my ideas let me know.
I like the idea of the marriage of technology and nature. I don't like all high tech yet at the same time I don't want to live in a hut.

The containers would snap into place within a steel frame for support. They can be taken in and out because there would be an existing steel frame support.
I am about to post my idea on Youtube. It is a little rough and I am not done but it is the basic model.

Here is the video I made of my apartment ideas. I move around a lot in the video so you may need to pause it every now and then if it makes you a bit dizzy.
I already know this idea works because I got the intial idea from container city I just improved upon it and came up with some of my own ideas.
Last Edit: 1 year, 11 months ago by Dreamseeker35. Reason: video not showing up

Interesting. Never thought to use Sim game as a video project. Look at some of the ideas in the Conceptualization Committee if you like house designs.

Yes containers are cheap and durable. They could be buried to add a few extra floors in the ground. i tried to find where i posted them on this site? As you know containers come in different sizes, with a price tag of around 2,00.00 for a 20x40. Once buried we should have a super foundation to add the needs of a community of 100 to turn into a few hundred thousand.
Just think of the number of containers we could put in the ground on any given number of square acres. Need to get G in Big D to join us. I think his is committed to Texas?

All these links are great.
