TOPIC: Visitor Hotel/Aquaponics/Restaurant concept

Visitor Hotel/Aquaponics/Restaurant concept 2 years, 3 months ago #1028

The buildings used in this is flexible, this just paints a picture of what could be utilizing the Visitor hotel, the visitor restaurant and aquaponics directly in the center:

This is beautiful! The residents could even be responsible for helping with the aquaponics system! They would be allowed to have hands on learning while they are visiting =) They would be allowed to taste how much better the food is when it is this fresh and well made.

Great concept. Now should we have a separate pool/amenities for just the hotel or should they share the public accomodations? Thought they may enjoy a separate section, I think that goes against the point and philosophy a bit and will take up twice as much space making two.

If we are to really want our visitors to get a good feel for the life in Atlas City, I don't think having them cooped up in a hotel would be proper. I think that they should be able to use public accommodations such as pools, parks, restaurants, resorts. They should be able to roam around and check out the university, the "knowledge center", live a few days and get a feel for what life is like without boundaries.

The problem there is that they dont have a grasp of the concepts for the lifestyle and they are still trained in the monetary ways.

If something is free then do you think a person in the monetary system will only take 1? Hell NO! They will empty the whole damn thing in their bag.

Without knowledge the average person is like a child and in that sense the vast majority of the population are children. They are corrupted and they wont think like a normal citizen where the citizen knows there is plenty for everyone in the city so they will only take 1. The visitor still lives in scarcity and they will take as much as they can. I may be wrong there and I will reconsider this thought in time.

Yes, unless they are interested in becoming an initiate, I believe limited access to certain city areas would be ideal. It's not to be disrespectful or anything, it's just those that decide to live in a monetary system can have a challenging time looking and interacting within an RBE. To them, everything may be free and it can be a snatch and grab situation. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but we have to look at worse case scenarios. Those who simply want to be visitors will have the visitors' tour. Those who wish to become initiate citizens of Atlas City will go through an orientation program so that they can prove their commitment in becoming a part of the unified society to help build and grow Atlas City with the rest of its citizen members. We really have to be careful and think of the well being of the city, its citizens and its meaning and not just let any old person in who doesn't understand it and cause a lot of misunderstandings or troubling scenarios that would be termed as setbacks for the city. This is just how I see it as well.

Well, for the hotel they may have to pass a questionaire to prove they can be respectful in Atlas. For friends and relatives visiting, the person they are visiting will be responsible for their actions.

If we pick up everyone at city limits/parking garage and transport them to the inner city area they will not be able to carry much with them (maybe a suitcase or two). Of course, in our philosophy, scarcity is evil, but so is waste. They will be asked to not bring more then necessary with for their stay. Within the city, we will provide all food and other accomodations (which we will have in surplus so it doesn't matter if they take more).

Ex: A visitor goes to our food market and fills up a suitcase worth of food to bring back home. If it is noticed by anyone in the city, then this person will simply not be allowed to come back and may be removed from the premises. We will not suffer because the point is to have enough extra that this will not affect us. They will be removed, however, for not demonstrating respectful and responsible actions.

They can use public areas (pool, gym, lecture halls) freely, but will not be allowed into buildings that require skills and/or care (recycling, electrical, etc.). If they go into our public storage facilities they must be supervised. The supervisor will deem what is of equal value for trade based on need, difficulty for us to produce ourselves and other factors. We don't want someone trading an earring for a power saw, but I do think they should have access to these places to see how everything works.

I think this idea needs a much closer inspection. During transition our resources are going to be fragile just like that of the outside world because we are still forced to work with the monetary system.

There will be no trading of goods in Atlas. There is no marketplace either because there is no trading.

Concept updated with a road and a rec center:

I do believe it was sketchup. We haven't heard much from Brad lately so i'm not sure how long it will take him to respond on schematics

i like the taller building, the others seem too short to be called modern.
