I think we should do routine maintenance on the Atlas Mainframe Hub every Monday and Friday of the week. The reasoning behind this is the fact that we will then be able to do:
  1. Important Server Software updates (security bug fixes; FTP, Apache fixes)
  2. Installation of new software (if needed)
  3. Deletion of any cache or temporary files
  4. Updating of local sites such as for qTeach, Resource Management System, Atlas Linux OS repositories, possibly our small server for Git (will be needed)

Overall, this isn't a bad idea in my opinion (hence why I'm addressing it). Considering I'm a nightowl anyways, I could do the updating of the Atlas Mainframe Hub while the majority of people are sleeping. I could also have (1) server that is online during the other's maintenance, to simply provide people who are like me, something to do while the other servers are down (maybe I could host a movie series, game event or something else fun to do).

it is generally proper IT department policy that maintenance and processes which would require fundamental systems to be taken down be handled after hours, so if it were on monday then it would need to be like a midnight cronjob or something. friday night would work though too

this is speaking for the future when there is a mainframe correct?

Josh, we are able to create the necessary mainframe as soon as funding allows. Frankly, we would only need something along the lines of a server rack or two, and simple run our sites via an apache webserver, localized file transfers via FTP server and a development git repository via gitosis. Any other necessary uses such as the controlling of traffic lights, emergency systems, et cetera, can be utilized by merely a few desktop computers connected directly to the network.

But yes, this is speaking for the future, however I'm sure TimeWarrior and I agree that we could have a mainframe up within the first week of construction of Atlas City. The only issue that is present is funding.
