The sculptures absorb CO2 temporarily... the toxic compounds within them bind gaseous CO2 which dissolves in them until water is added, when the CO2 is again released in gaseous form. A valid question would be... what do you do with the CO2 once you have it captured like that?

there are actually a variety of uses for co2 if you look it up on wikipedia. I also think this design looks really cool.

sadly it is a band-aid for a system problem, which is that we produce too much concentrations of co2 in urban environments. hopefully through designs of cleaner cars and manufacturing methods we can avoid even needing these.

but for right now it is a cool design.
