So I've had this stupid invention idea for about 8 years now. About a year and a half ago I contacted InventHelp because I kept seeing their commercials, but I was too busy to go to their mandatory meetings. Now they just email or mail you the needed documents if you want and I found out something completely disgusting. This is what it says on the papers I downloaded today:

"From 2007-2009, we signed Submission Agreements with 5,336 clients. As a result of our services, 86 clients have received license agreements for their products, and 27 clients have received more money than they paid us for these services"

27/5336!!!!

"We charge $790 for a Basic Information Package. We charge from $9,950 to $14,950 for our marketing, licensing or promotional services."

So, F%@^ that! After finding this out I'm even more motivated to get the invention our on some infomercial or similar type of medium without paying out the butt for it. It's stupid and simple, but if the Snuggy can sell millions of units I think I could at least make a little on it. Mostly, I just want to do it to say I invented something, but it wouldn't be bad if it became a hit. I'm not going to go into what the product is, but if anyone knows another way to go about this process please lend your insight. Being an "inventor" is on my bucket list, as well as a "writer", but I never get past chapter 3-4

Get a patent attorney and patent your invention. There is a few in Vegas. He will make sure you do everything in the right order.

Perhaps your invention could be kept and sold as a service, then you could avoid the need to patent it. (Being that to do so is rather expensive, plus it also lets the competition know how it works.)

Ebay might be a place to consider first selling it. (It is where I'm thinking of myself.)

Ideally, I'd like to sell the idea and just get a small royalty or something. It's nothing great, just something you would see on an infomercial. It's something that I think would sell, but is so small that it's not worth great financial investment on my part. If only "Pitchmen" was still around

ide say go for it, you only live once and why would you want to leave any good ideas uninvestigated?

I think long term it would be more useful to retain ownership, than to sell the idea.

But I can understand the need for money now, and the difficulty in producing it yourself!

I suppose ideally it would be nice if we had an organisation that we could let us our ideas, in exchange for some of the profits/benefits, or at least, an equal share with everyone else.

I would be happy for example doing that myself, if I could be reasonable sure someone isn't going to run off my designs and profit themselves.

You know maybe you could approach one of the other companies that is already selling the infomercial stuff and get them to buy your idea? Then you dont have to worry about all the other stuff.

It's an idea. Still need to have someone make a prototype.
