There is a psychological reason why pseudo sciences like astrology seem to work. Cognitive psychologists Rogers, Kuiper, and Kirker created a term to explain the strength of certain words when they are related to the self, self-reference effect.

This test was based on four types of memory; structural, phonemic, semantic and self-referent. Long story short, self-referent was the strongest by far. This also leads to strength in emotional attachment to the references. This is another reason why it's so easy to find personal connections to your horoscope, despite what words or events may come up.
