www.atlasinitiativegroup.org/forums/conceptualization/2447-buildings-needed-in-atlas.html

So this is what I have so far for what we will need in Atlas. I’d like to make a scale model sometime, but it’s near impossible to realize every building we will need, how big them must be, how many are needed, etc. PLEASE help me get everything on here we will need. The sooner that happens the sooner a more realistic city model can come about with some actual figures and detail.

Power storage- battery storage for bad weather
Water/glass/plastic/paper/cloth recycling
Compost center- people can have personal ones as well
Material storage- like a public Walmart-type facility since we will have little personal storage
Vertical farms- marketplaces can be set up around these to hand out the food
Convention centers- will host a wide variety of events and clubs
Electronics repair and replacement- eventually create our own cells, tv’s and other devices
Workshops- wood shop, metal work, mechanics
Computer room- public area for everyone to use computers and equipment if they don’t have them at home
Library- though most of this will likely be online, I prefer to actually hold a book and flip through pages
Public laundry- can likely be housed in each residential unit
Wind farms- depend on the land
Cattle/fish breeding land
Restaurants- scattered throughout the sectors
Bike racks- for public transportation should be set up everywhere, bikes can also be used freely by everyone
Fleet garage- for both internal electric cars, and cars from guests or to leave the city
Barber/salon and the like- I think these are useless, but some people think of their skill as an art so I guess I’ll include it as well

Entertainment and Convention center use
gym
Pool/spa/sauna- can be in gyms
Tennis/basketball/baseball/etc- these take up a lot of space, if they are to be implemented the design will have to incorporate many uses for the singular plot of land
Horseshoes/billiards/shuffle board/air hockey/darts/ arcade/pinball/ping pong/crochet and dozens of others should be put in a general entertainment center. Ever been to Gameworks?
Track and field- can be put in the gym
Bowling/dance halls/art studio/music room/archery/martial arts/gaming center- can be put with some of the other areas, but mostly require a separate wall at least or done outside (maybe the roof).

I may have gone too far with all the fun things, but I tried to think of anything myself or people I know enjoy and put it in there. The difficult part is realizing each and every building that will be mandatory for civilized living.

i dont know if we can say we are going to have all of these buildings, i mean, we are going to try to be barebones and still functional.

now... i know you can kill a whole section off that list, and that is the religious buildings section.

Many of these will be in the multipurpose conference rooms. Even religion can book a room for a time and place, but not have it's own separate building.

the point of wikipedias long list is to jar our brainstorming open a little bit to make sur ewe don't miss anything or etc.

As far as excluding "religious" buildings, you may want to consider that there are still agoras and such which are the atheist equivalents.

People will always need to meet in larger meeting houses and what not, and a little bit of added aesthetics doesn't hurt.
