This is a thread to explore housing design. I assume three different stages of development and 3-5 stories, 10-27 stories, and 100-400 stories per development stage.

I just designed a housing structure which is four units wide, ten units long,
and 3 stories tall, with 10 wings.

This gives a total number of 1200 units.

The same design would work fairly well for the second stage development also.

It features an interior hallway and 1152 square feet per unit, (16 meters by 8 meters)

Its modular, and halves of each wing can be built stand alone.

its 270 meters in radius or 540 meters in diameter, just slightly smaller than one of the eco town circle sections, but packed considerably denser.

I am now trying to import the whole model to sketchup..

drat i keep forgetting sketchup shrinks everything...

the program is too large it freezes sketchup up and is too annoying.

which is what often happens..

okay, it finally loaded. Assuming you have a very strong video card and a more recent puter (mine is only 3 years old...)

You might want to look at this or you might not.

I'm looking for volunteers to paint.

Heres a view in sketchup. You can't get these views in autocad because if you violate the periphery of the object with zoom the program crashes. (It doesn't know how to handle things being on the other side of the virtual wall created by the display.)

This is a view looking down the exterior hallway, just inside.

And heres a view from the internal courtyard looking down an internal hallway.

And you can own this file and we hope color it just go get it.

You may wish to delete some of the wings in order to allow the program to run smoothly and not freeze up.

i think your size stages are growing much too exponentially

also, if you were to do this with chase's earthship design, you would want all their large windows to be facing the same direction, that way they all have the same levels of heating and cooling. you also want them spaced so that the other buildings dont block light

You are probably right, it will probably be more like 5 stages, but I didn't want to complicate things too much in the conversation.

Back when i was really giving it to you straight too many people didn't "get" it.

If you look at round one, I drew up at one point a zones treatment where there was a 100 meter tall growth per growth stage and like eight growth stages.

This seemed to go over as well as Easter for Klingons.

("Korath! You are using up all the red paint...careful not to squeeze the eggs!")

"also, if you were to do this with chase's earthship design,"

thats clearly not what this is, but okay,...

"you would want all their large windows to be facing the same direction, that way they all have the same levels of heating and cooling."

This is a radial symetric design which assumes that heating is more electrical and less solar. I can have the array function not rotate arrayed things, so thats fine for structures we want to do like that.

you also want them spaced so that the other buildings dont block light

Its also a housing structure not a garden, and its designed without regard to solar heating or access. I think that keeping solar access in mind is a great idea, but lets try to remember that solar access isn't everything.

And artificial lighting can now mimick the sun wherever and whenever we want it.

The point of this design is 1200 units with that square footage each inside of a 600 meter diameter.

In other words, Density is the primary consideration in this design.
